Layla’s Spring Project Delivers Dignity Bags to Unchain Our Children

As part of a Spring project, nine-year-old Layla assembled dignity bags filled with personal hygiene items and donated them to Unchain Our Children for distribution to vulnerable girls.

Inspired by her mother Christy’s example, Layla has been encouraged since the age of four to select and take part in charity initiatives. For this project she contributed some of her own pocket money to purchase supplies. Other supporters also donated special items, turning the effort into a collective contribution.

Chrissie Lemmer, franchisee of SASOL Lotus Gardens and a longstanding supporter of Unchain Our Children, directed the family to the organization so the bags could reach those who need them most. The completed bags were handed over to Wayne van Onselen, founder and executive director of Unchain Our Children.

Thanks to her teacher, Miss Minette, laying a Godly foundation in class, Layla wanted to leave a message to her peers and chose Philippians 4 verse 13 to encourage those who are experiencing difficult times, to be strong and courageous living life.

The initiative highlights the value of peer-to-peer outreach, in which young people offer practical care and support to others. From an early age Layla has learned to look out for those facing hardship, finding personal fulfilment in helping them.

Her generosity stands as a clear example for other children of how small, thoughtful actions can make a tangible difference.
