Unchain Our Children’s recent outreach in cooperation with SAPS Pretoria West Social Crimes Unit and Pretoria Central FCS Unit to Simon Bekker primary School, added to the awareness of dangers lurking in cyber space, especially social media. Important tips on responsible cellphone use were shared by the experts with the audience.

The UOC Team has established itself as a prominent member of several local and national initiatives combatting abuse of children, especially in the realm of electronic device use by children. Amy Arnold, UOC’s Specialist Operative, leads the awareness campaigns across the country and is a popular guest speaker who also trains law enforcement officers, social workers and other community officials to understand the complexities and ever changing strategies of cybercrimes and sexual exploitation of children clearer.

“This event, a first for our school, was an immense move forward regarding the urgent need for helpful information which equip us to deal better with the reporting and following up of cases. We plan similar information sessions for the parents and a follow-up session for the school”, said Elzanda Haasbroek, Vice Principal, Simon Bekker Primary School.

Collaborating with local and national SAPS members as well as with specialized units like the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), Unchain Our Children’s presence inspired confidence and trust for reporting domestic violence, abuse and other crimes.

The FCS has 176 units across South Africa. It investigates cases related to family violence, child protection, Gender-Based Violence, electronic crimes, and sexual offences involving women, children and vulnerable groups.

“Meeting the Unchain Children Team and experiencing their enthusiasm for the wellbeing of children, is uplifting and encouraging and we have already reached out to other schools sharing with them Unchain Our Children’s dedication to raise awareness regarding crimes that are targeting the innocence of children”. Elzanda Haasbroek, Vice Principal, Simon Bekker Primary School.
