KARL STORZ Staff Rally to Support Vulnerable Children with Soft Toys and Clothing Donation

Staff at KARL STORZ Endoscopy (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd initiated a heartfelt collection of soft toys, clothing and other gift items for children who have suffered exploitation and abuse. The items were donated to Unchain Our Children for distribution to places of safety, with longstanding supporter Chris Dykes facilitating the handover.

The staff themselves organized the drive, gathering a substantial collection of toys, clothes and related items out of genuine concern for vulnerable children. Their proactive effort stands as a clear example of good corporate citizenship and a tangible contribution to bringing joy to young lives that have often known only hardship.

The donation builds on an earlier pledge of Christmas gifts for 2025. Dykes, recognized for mobilizing his network around environmental and social causes, introduced the company to Unchain Our Children.  Tanaya Deysel, senior sales representative at KARL STORZ, coordinated the Winter Drive collection together with Dykes.

“Meeting the Unchain team more than three years ago, and seeing the work they do, being able to play a small role, means the world to me,” Chris said.

The company, founded in Tuttlingen, Germany, by Dr Karl Storz in 1945, maintains its global headquarters and manufacturing base there while operating a South African subsidiary with offices in Cape Town and Gauteng. The Storz family’s philanthropic focus centers on medical advancement, yet the South African staff have independently extended support to social causes.

Unchain Our Children channels such donations to children who have experienced neglect, abuse or human trafficking. Wayne van Onselen, Founder and Executive Director, accepted the contribution with gratitude, describing the organization as “merely the conduit between donors and recipients, the vehicle bringing joy to the vulnerable that often only have known sorrow.”

This substantial gift underscores the commitment of KARL STORZ staff to supporting vulnerable children in Pretoria and the wider community served by Unchain Our Children.
