Pretoria-based MidCity Property Group, renowned for its strong philanthropic ethos, has partnered with KidsCare Projects to support Unchain Our Children (UOC) in serving South Africa’s most vulnerable children. In a recent initiative, MidCity employees assembled 48 fully equipped KidsCare Backpacks, which were handed over to UOC for distribution to children entering places of safety across Gauteng.

Rather than a conventional corporate team-building activity, staff enthusiastically packed each backpack with toiletries, clothing, stationery, comfort items, and other essentials for children rescued from abusive or neglectful environments.
“Together, through partnerships like these, we are changing the first night, one bag at a time,” said Chanel Long, Founder of KidsCare Projects.

Transitioning from trauma to safety remains profoundly difficult. The new, high-quality backpacks provide more than practical supplies — they offer something personal that belongs solely to the child, restoring dignity, reinforcing self-worth, and conveying that someone cares.
This collaboration forms part of MidCity Property Group’s deepened commitment to child welfare. For the past 13 years, the company’s annual golf day — originally the MidCity Charity Golf Day and now renamed the Zottie de Villiers Golf Day, in honor of its late founder, Zottie de Villiers — has been a cornerstone of its philanthropy. While funds previously supported an old age home, the majority will now be channeled to children in need.
“We would like to use all funds raised at the Zottie de Villiers Golf Day on 25 August 2026, to support children in need. We realize that children haven’t chosen the situations and often very damaging circumstances they are in. Therefore, we want to make a difference in their lives and futures,” said Daleen van Dyk, Executive Director, IT & Marketing at MidCity.

Both MidCity Property Group and KidsCare Projects are treasured, long-standing partners of Unchain Our Children.
“Teamwork strengthens the impact of support on the vulnerable and UOC is deeply grateful for KidsCare’s support and MidCity Property Group staff’s generous contribution to the well-being of children in need,” said Wayne van Onselen, Founder and Executive Director of Unchain Our Children. “Sharing in such a great way is tangible caring and together we will continue to serve the vulnerable.”
