An outreach, in collaboration with Unchain Our Children, to The Glen High School initiated by Sergeant Mofokeng from the Brooklyn Police station, was enthusiastically received by not only the pupils and teachers, but also by the other guests.  Present at the outreach were Department of Social Development, Cyber-crime, and the Ambassador of the Department of Correctional Services.

“We can’t fight crime alone, hence our deep appreciation for Wayne van Onselen, Founder and Executive of Unchain Our Children who is supporting us not only in outreaches to schools but also sharing with us a wealth of knowledge regarding the combatting of sexual exploitation of children." Sgt. Mofokeng.

Sgt. Mofokeng and her SAPS Brooklyn Team have the best interests of children at hand and prioritizes children’s wellbeing especially with regard to the huge impact illicit exchange of inappropriate pictures have on the development of teens who are being solicited by predators online.

Amy Arnold, Unchain Our Children’s specialist operative explained to the audience the process of online solicitation and the dangers of social media, cyber-crime, and sexual assault and harassment. Amy, a much valued member of Unchain Our Children, is tasked with counter human trafficking awareness campaigns, training and investigations.

“The Unchain Our Children Team is well-equipped to deal with on the spot trauma reporting by children”, Sgt. Mofokeng said when she referred to UOC’s Senior Social Worker who stepped forward when a child shared a horrible experience during the outreach.

Education of parents, teachers and children regarding the dangers of social media, is adamant to prevent children to be traumatised by soulless predators.

“Walking alongside SAPS as a partner combatting sexual exploitation of children is strengthening the cause to serve and protect the vulnerable and to be there when they need help”.  Wayne van Onselen, Founder & Executive Director, Unchain Our Children
