A recent educational outreach to The New Hope School in Pretoria, as part of an ongoing awareness campaign, was successfully accomplished together with Pretoria Moot FCS and Tshwane District Crime Prevention, Brooklyn SAPS. The purpose of the outreach was to alert learners about the dangers of sexual grooming, child pornography and to encourage responsible cell phone use. Other related issues pertaining to their safety were also discussed.
Warrant Officer Melani Smit of Pretoria Moot FCS and Wayne van Onselen, Founder and Executive Director of Unchain Our Children addressed the pupils and teachers. Their powerful speeches were well received by the audience.
The New Hope School in Pretoria, with 417 pupils enrolled currently, welcomes learners with Cerebral Palsy, physical and learning disabilities, traumatic head injuries and specific learning disabilities. Besides education services from Grade RRR to Grade 12, the school also offers life- and vocational skills.
Sexual Predators present a profile of inherent weakness and cowardness, hence their targeting of the most vulnerable in society. They operate to deceive the innocent by focussing on their needs. Stripped of any humanity, decency or moral compass, they are motivated by lust, greed and operate under the gross command of sexual predator rings powered by national and international syndicates, often hiding in the light, functioning as authority figures, leaders, influencers, entertainers and even immediate family members. Every level of society is tainted by this evil phenomenon.
Unchain Our Children’s partnership with Tshwane District Crime Prevention, Brooklyn SAPS and Pretoria Moot FCS, has been established to provide a valuable and much needed service to the youth and the impact of their combined resources, experience and hands on modus operandi has had a profound effect on curbing the tide regarding detecting direct and indirect onslaughts on children.
The purpose of partnering with the school, is to identify and address important issues to secure the best interests of the learners. Future interactions were discussed with the Headmaster and the governing body of the school. Continuous follow up sessions will further educate learners to recognise the signs of unwanted attention either by electronic means or direct contact of sexual predators.
“We believe in partnerships and teamwork to collectively stand against the sexual predatory advances of traffickers and abusers of children. By educating South Africa’s youth in tandem with SAPS, respect for and trust in the men and women in blue are built and maintained and optimal results are achieved”, Wayne said upon expressing his gratitude towards Pretoria Moot FCS and Tshwane District Crime Prevention, Brooklyn SAPS.
