Unchain Our Children was invited to attend the UNICEF/FOR EVERY CHILD national stakeholder consultation on ending violence against children in preparation for global ministerial conference in Bogota Colombia, hosted by Department Social Development (National Office) at the Premier Hotel O.R Tambo today.
As one of only five invited NPOs/NPCs, Unchain Our Children made a valuable contribution towards the Minister’s paper on child safety in South Africa which will be presented at the global ministerial conference in Bogota. It was a productive day of brainstorming and exchanging of knowledge and experience
“It is our right and privilege to protect children and to stand up for their rights as their lives and futures are at stake”, said Wayne van Onselen, Founder and Executive Director who attended the event with Nicky McDonald, Senior Social Worker of UOC and Amy Arnold, Specialist Operative heading the counter-human trafficking initiatives and investigations at UOC.
The first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on ending violence against children will be taking place 7-8 November 2024 in Bogota, Colombia. It is being convened by the Government of Colombia with the support of the Government of Sweden, UNICEF, the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children, and the World Health Organization.
It will be a convention for Ministers, decision-makers, advocates (including survivors, children, and youth), researchers, and funders to advance the global agenda on preventing and ending violence against children.
“At UNICEF, we strive to ensure that no child is left behind. In this, we work to support the South African Government, families and communities in reducing child poverty and improving education, health care and child protection for every child”.
