UOC CONDUCTS TRAINING SESSION FOR DEPARTMENT SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Amy Arnold, UOC’s Specialist Operative conducted a capacity building workshop and training for Department Social Development today. Eighty social workers attended, and every participant was presented with the Social Worker Training Manual, Trafficking in Persons Resource Guide, expertly compiled by Amy.

With 14 years in law enforcement in the United States of America, Amy’s experience includes Trainer for Police Academy; Domestic Violence Detective; Patrol Sergeant; She instructed a Train the Trainer Program in Malawi for Police Officers; Is a Specialist Counter-Trafficking Operative for Unchain Our Children and regularly participates on task teams with government to fight trafficking.

The audience learned about exploitation, grooming and the Trafficking in Persons Act, during Amy’s informative lectures which were expertly conveyed and well received.


Everyone in attendance also discovered the finer details of statement taking, interviewing, and was made aware of standard operating procedures.  Emphasis was also on understanding the different documents/forms that need to be filled out.   The group interacted and was attentive, especially during the practical exercises of the newly gained knowledge.

Representatives from several Child and Youth Care Centers (CYCC) were also present. The audience consisted of all social work portfolios who deal with the DSD’s children side.


Speaking with confidence and authority, derived from her many years as law enforcement officer in the USA, all attendees expressed their appreciation and was grateful to gain more knowledge about the crime that destroys many lives.


Training of key personnel is imperative as it provides an essential foundation for first responders, service providers and educators to recognize the indicators of human trafficking and know how to respond effectively.
