UOC’S OUTREACH TO THE CHARACTER COMPANY BEGINNING OF NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP

Wayne van Onselen, Founder and Executive Director of Unchain Our Children did an outreach to The Character Company where he spoke on the importance of strong male role models for boys. Single-parent households are increasing and more boys don’t have a father figure to identify with.

Character Company’s goal is “To help raise boys to be good men with strong values, positively impacting families, communities, and society, via a long-term MENtorship program”.  Excerpt from website:  https://www.thecharactercompany.co.za/

With impressive statistics, The Character Company proudly stated that, more than a 1000 boys have been mentored and 6 721 mentoring sessions have been completed with 167 camps done in shaping the future of the fatherless. 93 Active mentors have joined The Character Company in their dedication of building boys’ character by tutoring and practical example.

During camps and mentoring sessions, the boys are taught how to handle conflict, how to manage strong feelings without aggression and how to practice self-discipline.  The mentorship includes encouraging the boys to speak the truth and stand for what is right.

The Character Company is mentoring boys to embrace healthy, positive masculinity.

“Fragile masculinity breaks men. Harmful stereotypes hold us all back. It’s time to let them go. Real men know there’s strength in kindness, courage in honesty, and power in being true to yourself and others. Boys need to see that every day”.  Excerpt:  https://www.facebook.com/TheCharacterCo

With a lot of synergy between UOC and The Character Company, the leadership of both organizations are in agreement that taking hands will have significant impact on the lives of the boys becoming men, and they are in the process of confirming a partnership and will soon sign the Memorandum of Understanding making it possible to tackle initiatives across the country.
