UOC’s TRAINING FOR BEDFORDVIEW CHILD GUARDIAN UNIT BOOSTS CONFIDENCE

A recent advance training session on sexual exploitation, grooming, trafficking law and interviewing techniques was presented by Unchain Our Children’s Specialist Operative, Amy Arnold for ten members of Bedfordview Child Guardian Unit who actively advocate and work for the protection, welfare and empowerment of children. This unit works in synergy with SAPS and other local law enforcement agencies.

Amy’s rich and vast law enforcement experience of 14 years in the United States of America, has earned her significant stature among her peers and she has become a respected voice in South Africa initiating counter trafficking events and specialized training. As a seasoned professional and exceptional strategist, she is a much valued member of UOC and welcomed on several government task teams addressing trafficking and relating matters. She conducts essential training and capacity building of individuals serving in all arenas of child protecting disciplines tasked with combatting of sexual exploitation of children.

The attendees really appreciate how clear the law was explained in Amy’s presentations. It was accessible and easily understood. She presented the content in chart format, then broke it down, and quoted examples to apply it practically. Possible cases and case studies were tackled and discussed. The group analyzed the trafficking cases, applied critical thinking and discussed them in-depth to cover all angles.
Amy’s way of teaching the pertaining laws, was the key to their understanding and brought immense clarity. They understood the steps, what to do next, the chronology thereof and the reasons for that.

Amy Arnold – Expert UOC Operative:
Amy served 14 years in Law enforcement in the USA. Her star-studded career includes being a Trainer for Police Academy, a Domestic Violence Detective, a Patrol Sergeant, and an Instructor for Train the Trainer program in Malawi for Police Officers; In South Africa, she is the Specialized counter-trafficking Operative for Unchain Our Children and she is participating on several task teams with government to combat and investigate trafficking.

Bedfordview Child Guardian Unit has a clear mandate, “We advocate for the protection, welfare and empowerment of children”. Working together with SAPS Bedfordview, Bedfordview CPF Sector 3, other NGOs, NPOs and NPCs, registered social workers addressing and preventing crimes against children in their area.

They assist with opening cases for abused children and court support. They also accompany local SAPS members on children welfare checks. Their visibility in the community offers immediate access to persons in need of protection and intervention. They have an extended network of helpful professionals who enable them to quickly and effectively mobilizing children to safety.
The dedication of the unit’s members is extraordinary, not only in its operations but also in the heartfelt empathy for the victims.
